Editing is... Boring.

I know I haven't blogged in a while, not much has been happening. Recently, I finished the script for my second graphic novel. Instead of starting the third one, I decided to edit the first two. I haven't finished editing the first one yet, but I can say that it's been boring. All I'm doing is reading the script and changing small things, because I had already fixed the big problems. While I do have good music listen to, it doesn't really help. It should take me another day or two to finish editing the first one.  That's all that's been happening, I'll try to blog next week.

An Unfortunate Misunderstanding

School's over and now I'm on summer break! Right after summer break, I went on a trip to Yellowstone so I haven't been able to write. I got an email back from a person that I thought was going to get me an artist but it turns out that I read his first email wrong. He said, "I'm working on getting someone from brightbytes design team to support you."
Hence support in that sentence. It turned out that the person that I now have has agreed to answer any questions that I had about this, so no artist. That means now I have to continue to find an artist for a graphic novel series.

Self reflection

The T.E.D. talks were yesterday and (besides being incredibly awkward) I thought mine went pretty good. This is going to be longer than most of my blogs because for this, I'll be saying my experiences and thoughts that I had throughout the year. Since 20% time started I've seen school in a different manner. I used to think of it that only high school would really matter since to get into college, they usually don't check anything before high school. I thought that I shouldn't have to work very hard in middle school since I would have to work hard in high school. But now, I think of it more as I should try hard in every class if learning will be as fun as this. As well, I was able to explore the one thing that I can't see myself growing out of, which is story making. While I've said it before, I've always been creating fan fiction in my head for as long as I can remember. I learned a lot not just about writing a novel but as well writing in general. I learned how to foreshadow and how to make everything in the story seem interesting. I learned other writing techniques but I won't go into detail. While I may not have been doing a fundraiser or inventing something that is relatively new, or make something life changing, I did what made me happy and explored my passion. A lot of my classmates learned how to make or do one thing that would only apply to one subject, but I think I learned something that would apply to many other subjects. I learned that you can't out limits on creativity. My original goal was to write a novel in May. I eventually learned that putting a limit was only going to slow me down in the long run. Since the school year is going to be over soon I might not be blogging weekly since this was for a grade but I'll still blog if there's an important update. I can honestly say that I don't think I'll have teachers batter than the ones I had this year. I would like to thank my teachers Don Eckert and Melissa Hellwig for making me pursue this dream. If I never met them, then I might've never done this and might've never got into writing like I am now. They made start my dreams and because of them, I could be a full time writer when I get out of school. I still don't have an artist but I hope I'll have one soon. I know that my teachers will wish me the best of luck in my future of writing. Whatever they do, I wish them the best of luck in their future of teaching and hope that 20% time will eventually be in all of Webster Groves.

Just keep waiting

Right now, I'm waiting for someone to get back to me for an artist. I've been waiting for about three weeks now and he hasn't got back to me. In about a week, if he doesn't get back to me then I'll try contacting him. I haven't really started my second graphic novel script but when I do, I'll get it done pretty fast. T.E.D. talks are coming up and I've only practiced it once in front of myself. The time was five minutes and 30 seconds. I'll make sure to practice it more and I'll post my T.E.D. talk when I do it.

Done for the first

I finished the first script for the first graphic novel! As well, I might have an artist soon. I don't know who it is, but someone is trying to get someone from the Brightbytes design team to help me. If you don't know what Brightbytes is, it's a team that does school studies and applies those to help school learning. I haven't got anything yet, but I was told to expect it sometime this week. I've started making more changes and only the main character has been introduced.

Getting Close

I'm getting close to finishing the script for the first graphic novel. I plan for it to end in a bit of a cliffhanger. It will end with the main character questioning most of the things. While I haven't got to it, he'll say, "Why is it that I'm one of the few people to survive after the war? What is it that I'm meant to do. How strong will I have to be to beat Satan? Then what will I do? What will I have to do to get there. Will I have to kill many demons? But the most important thing, something that I must know. For my sin, how may I attone?"
I still haven't got an artist and as well, I have found out the cost of hiring an artist. It's too far out of my price range but I might be able to work something out. I don't think I could make a very good deal and because of that, I'll try to have someone in my family or friend be the artist. I didn't think that was a good idea but I guess that I'll end up doing that.

T.E.D talks and finding time

What I'd like to say first is that I finished a writing project that was taking up my time! However I turned it in late, but it was pretty much the longest story that there was. Now that I've finished that, I'll be able to work more on my script! As well, in a month we have to do this thing called a T.E.D. talk. It's where in May, we'll go up onto a stage and talk about what we learned from our project. I plan to talk about how I learned to plan out stories and not necessarily go with what you thought was good first. I haven't thought about it too much, so I can't say a lot but I'll probably know what I'm gonna say when I actually get onto the stage (I'm not much of a planner).

Need to work

I haven't really done anything this week. I've wrote a little more but not a lot. It's probably because I had a writing project and that was taking up my normal writing time along with my other school-work. I probably could get in more work than I've been doing, but I would be spending the majority of my time doing work and I would probably get a headache every day.  When I get the story done, I'll probably be able to start working again. When I finish the script for the first graphic novel, I'll plan to try and get an artist. I won't get an artist if I finish the first script before summer break. When I'm on summer break, I'll be able to get more work done.

A good starting point... Again

Since I decided to make The False Demon into a graphic novel, I completed the script for the prologue yesterday. I've started on chapter 1 and there have already been a good amount of changes to it. For one, in the prologue, it was a lot more serious and it seemed like they knew about humanity crumbling. Now I've changed it to be where the main character's mom has a short temper and as well the main character does. It was at the least 90% serious and now I've made it so it's not like that. There's more humor and jokes in it. As well, in the prologue there's some parts that are foreshadowed. It foreshadows some events that would play a bigger part in the story than expected. That's all I've done this week.

the little boy that couldn't

Once I finally was ready to start writing, I couldn't. A week ago I thought that I would write the next day. Instead of being able to do that, I woke up with a fever of 102.5 and was making sure that I didn't die. The next day, I found out that I had strep throat. Then I lied in my bed for the rest of the week (five days). But now I'm feeling better and will start writing soon (hopefully).

a change in direction

Spring break has recently ended and I didn't really do much writing over then. I didn't do much writing because I was doing research for a change in my project. I'm planning to keep the story, but make it a graphic novel. I want it to be a graphic novel because a lot of my inspiration was from manga and anime (japanese graphic novels and japanese animation). I figured that because of how much action there is, I would make it a graphic novel. I also changed it because I figured it should be a graphic novel because of how much inspiration came from mangas and anime. I can't draw so before I find an artist, I'm going to break it down into panels and say what happens in each panel. I plan to find an artist once I'm on summer break.

Starting to do things

I've already mentioned that I haven't really done any writing since January. It was for multiple reasons, but it was mainly because I had too much homework and couldn't really find time to write (I could've but I would have to sacrifice playing video games). I've been able to start writing again because I've finished my homework and not much has been assigned. Fortunately spring break is coming up in a few days and I plan to use that time to get back on track. I'm getting closer to finishing my book and the closer I get, the more I realize how much editing I'm going to have to do.

Room for improvement

Right now, I'm planning on making the story multi-perspective. I'm doing that because it's too short if I don't the novel will be too short. Right now I'm changing perspective after an action scene so it's not constantly action. I've only changed perspective once, but I will have a couple more once the first draft is done. After the first draft, I'll go through it and add in more perspectives since so far the book is more than halfway done  and it's only been the perspective of one person.

Good news... And not so good news

While the idea showcase was a couple days ago and that was good, there's something that's not quite so good. I'll start out with the good news first by saying that I think I did pretty good on the idea showcase. Everyone who visited my project said that it was a good project, but there was around 12 people at the idea showcase. The bad news is that I'm not sure about my book being a book. I think that it would be better as a graphic novel series. The problem is that I know less about writing a graphic novel series than I do about writing a book. The other problem is that I can't draw. I would have to find an artist that would draw it for me, and transfer all of what I have to a series by re-writing it. I'm not sure about what I would do, but I do know that I wrote far too little, and when I get to editing, I'll have to write a lot more.

Constructive thinking

Currently, everyone has entered the Garden of Eden. Everyone entered for when they gained acceptance from other people. While they've all showed secrets, there was one character that seemed like he was an open book. It turned out that he had the most secrets of all. One of them was so deadly that he didn't tell anyone else, so the other main characters wouldn't want to kill him. When they entered the Garden of Eden, they found out that it has changed a lot since the war. All of the plants are now burnt to ash. It also has lots of hidden chambers. To go through the chambers, they have to use certain swords as if they were keys. The Garden of Eden is where they go through a series of trails to see if they can fight Satan.

A work in progress... Somewhat

I'm now on page 50 of my book. Everyone is learning more about Lucifer, God, and the seven original sins. There has recently been a plot twist that affected how the characters see the main character. Now, the four main characters are learning more about each other, and are being careful about how they treat each other.
I'm still preparing for the idea showcase. I've currently made a draft of what I want to show to my audience. I will soon have it checked and will (eventually, after I make edits) transfer all of the information to a tri-fold.

Preparing for idea showcase

We have three weeks until we have to do Idea Showcase. On February, 16th we will go into our Library and show our ideas without any technology. We'll get posterboard tripods (or something that can stand on its own) and put the information that we have on that. So far I have no supplies to make it, but I do have three weeks and will get the materials soon. Sometime today or tomorrow I'll make a sketch of what I think it should look like, and have someone check it to see if it's good enough.

Time To Work

I now have around three months left until my book is due. I am only at page 38 (which isn't even half-way through) so now I have to start working like crazy. Not much has happened in the book so I need to pick up the pace and go incredibly fast. My goal is to get around 100 pages and considering the speed that I'm going at, I won't finish. I will soon be able to get in touch with someone that could show me other authors that could help me.

Back from winter break

I was on my two week winter break and have been working. Sadly I haven't been working very hard(only about six pages). So since I have done so little work I have to be hard at work until late May. I don't really think that I could get all of my ideas into the book but if I do cut out certain parts that I think aren't quite as important, than I think I will be able to finish it. On pitch day, I did get in touch with one of the people from pitch day during winter break. He hasn't replied yet, but I do hope that he will reply soon so that I can talk to other local authors.
